Kelpie the Vulpine

My entry for Brackeys Game Jam 2023.1!

Kelpie the Vulpine is a small side-scroller puzzle platformer with a twist: When your character dies, she becomes a ghost, allowing various abilities including free flight and a dash!

Wander through 3 different levels and solve the puzzles, but remember: Some of them can only be solved when you're dead! While a living fox, Kelpie can jump, run, and bounce on enemies. Once dead, she becomes a flying ghost, able to go through certain types of objects, grab certain types of items, and fend off phantasms that haunt her!

Controls:

- WASD + Mouse (Left Click = jump / confirm)

- Arrow Keys + SpaceBar

- Or play with a Controller! 

Extra Information:

• All songs are creations of mine and made during the time of the jam (with FL Studio 21), as well as all the artwork (with Aseprite, Spritemancer, and Pixels Composer). This game was coded using Unity, C#, and Licht (https://github.com/ConradoClark/Licht)

• Final Thoughts:
  • I have an incorrigible tendency of overshooting and trying to pack up as much as I can within the game, which usually comes at the cost of sacrificing content. 
  • However, I am happy that while a programmer at core, I am improving my artistic skills a lot, which is great.
  • I hope you like what I came up with, I focused a lot on the transformation mechanics and puzzle gimmicks, even if the game is definitely on the shorter side.
